Enjoying mouthwatering beef shouldn’t cost the planet.
The Grazewell regenerative program follows practices with written grazing plans that improve soil health and water, plant and wildlife diversity. Cattle are raised with lifelong access to pasture, with access to grain for flavor, enabling our ranching families to regeneratively raise cattle in harmony with nature.
But this is just the start of our journey. Grazewell’s practices will continue to evolve and expand, reflecting our ongoing commitment to progress.
Because we believe in a future where you can have your beef and eat it sustainably too.
What is a Grazing Plan?
Ranchers rely on grazing management plans to oversee the grass or cropland where their cattle graze. These plans are adaptable and ever-evolving, considering factors like rainfall, forage type, time of year and herd size to determine grazing duration in each area. This careful management not only enhances forage growth but also promotes healthier soil, ensuring land vitality for generations to come.
Full-On Flavor
Cattle raised the Grazewell way enjoy the freedom to roam on pasture with lifelong access to open spaces. While on pasture, they also have access to grain during key times to help create optimal marbling. Marbling is one of the biggest indicators of flavor, and grain-feeding has been shown to positively influence marbling. This means you can expect even more delicious flavor, ample tenderness and a visibly marbled appearance.
The Power of Crop Rotation
The Grazewell regenerative program is an innovative way of raising cattle on pasture their whole life and ensuring they have access to a highly nutritious, grain-based feed and pasture during the finishing phase. Our finishing approach combines grain-based feed, cattle grazing and crop rotation, which helps replenish the soil’s nutrients. Unlike traditional cattle feeding methods that rely on waste lagoons, our system helps restore the soil naturally.
Science-Based Practices on the Pasture
We’ve done our homework on how to forge a path for regenerative agriculture by working with scientists and conservationists. Our practices are carefully crafted to foster a symbiotic relationship with nature while always having access to pasture. See how our ranching families achieve this delicate balance across each ecosystem process.
Water Cycle
Healthy water cycles are nature’s hydration plan for plants, ensuring plant utilization, soil absorption and replenishment of underground water sources. Our grazing practices provide the most effective use of rain and irrigation water.
Energy Cycle
Plants are the foundation for all growth. They soak up sunlight and convert it into food. This enriches the soil and promotes the growth of better-quality grass for grazing animals. Plants can then release more energy into the ground, which increases soil health, promotes root growth and provides better forage.
Nutrient Cycle
Healthy nutrient cycles, which rely on a mix of diverse plants, soil cover and minimal tillage, set the stage for a flourishing ecosystem. We graze to create ground cover, minimize erosion and capture moisture, which ultimately moves nutrients through the cycle.
Biodiversity
A dynamic ecosystem is a thriving one. Our grazing practices promote the biodiversity of plants, enhance wildlife habitats and include rest periods to allow for plant recovery. We manage grazing for dense strands of perennial grasses.
The Grazewell Journey
We believe the journey and the knowledge gained along the way are more important than the destination. The Grazewell Journey empowers ranchers to make progress toward their land health goals and continually improve their efforts.
USDA Climate Smart Grant Participant
Ranchers are participating and being monitored through the USDA Climate Smart Grant, Building a Regenerative Ranching Economy in the West, ensuring our commitment to regenerative ranching practices that not only benefit rangeland health but also the high-quality beef products you bring home.
The USDA defines Climate Smart as an “agricultural commodity that is produced using agricultural practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions or sequester carbon.” The project is designed to expand climate-smart markets for beef and implement climate-smart grazing practices in beef production, monitoring greenhouse gas emissions, soil carbon density, and ground cover.
